Alan and Allison White retired from richly-textured careers in public education to the mountains of North Carolina with the dream of becoming potters and with an understanding that potters are continually "becoming." Each new pot is a touchstone in the process: envisioning, forming, glazing, firing - learning. Designs are motivated by a desire to create works of simple beauty and daily function which capture the restive spirit of the mountains and blend it with the classic forms of antiquity.

Two prevailing forces encompass our work: a desire for unity and a striving toward harmony ...

with each other - spending time together dreaming and creating;

with Earth's fundamental elements - working with clay, water and fire;

with our community of artisans - reaching toward a personal aesthetic; within ourselves - responding to the creative impulse that echoes within us all.
