SUMMARY:Introduction to Precious Metal Clay with Amy Brandenburg
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Precious Metal Clay with Amy Brandenburg\nExplore jewelry making using precious metal clay (PMC). PMC is clay made of metal particles\, which may be sculpted to create pieces that become solid\, fine silver when fired. Each student will create a pair of small earrings and a charm or a bead. Students will learn how to texture the clay\, fire\, patina and polish. All skill levels welcome. \nWhen: Saturday\, January 9\, 2021\, 11AM – 5PM\nWhere: Toe River Arts Spruce Pine Owen Gallery\nWorkshop Fee: $125 (includes material and tool rental) \nAmy Brandenburg is a certified PMC instructor in Asheville\, NC who has taught metal clay for the last 9 years. She received a BA in Jewelry Design from Columbia College in Chicago and an MA in Visual Culture; Costume Studies from NYU. An award-winning metal clay artist and member of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild\, she creates jewelry inspired by history\, nature and architecture that is enameled\, carved and three dimensional. Sharing her passion for metal clay\, she creates an environment where others can experiment\, learn and grow. SUMMARY:Student Showcase Artwork Drop-off
DESCRIPTION:Toe River Arts will host its annual Student Showcase exhibitions for both Mitchell and Yancey county students at its Spruce Pine gallery February 6 through March 6\, 2021. While the call for submissions is typically made to arts educators to submit the students’ work\, Toe River Arts encourages both educators and parents with children aged 3 to 17 to submit their students’ work made in the last year to be in the exhibit. Artwork does not need to be framed. Work may be dropped off at the Toe River Arts Spruce Pine gallery at 269 Oak Avenue January 18 through January 30\, 10:30AM to 5PM\, Tuesday through Saturday. \nIn lieu of a reception\, Toe River Arts will host free workshops every Saturday during the exhibition for children aged three and older living in Mitchell and Yancey counties. Participants will learn to work with fused glass\, construct bird houses made of clay\, and will be introduced to paste paper and printmaking. Classes are limited to eight students to allow for proper social distancing. While the workshops are free\, participants must be registered ahead of time.
