Toe River Arts will host its annual Student Showcase exhibitions for both Mitchell and Yancey county students at its Spruce Pine gallery February 6 through March 6, 2021. While the call for submissions is typically made to arts educators to submit the students’ work, Toe River Arts encourages both educators and parents with children aged 3 to 17 to submit their students’ work made in the last year to be in the exhibit. Artwork does not need to be framed. Work may be dropped off at the Toe River Arts Spruce Pine gallery at 269 Oak Avenue January 18 through January 30, 10:30AM to 5PM, Tuesday through Saturday.
In lieu of a reception, Toe River Arts will host free workshops every Saturday during the exhibition for children aged three and older living in Mitchell and Yancey counties. Participants will learn to work with fused glass, construct bird houses made of clay, and will be introduced to paste paper and printmaking. Classes are limited to eight students to allow for proper social distancing. While the workshops are free, participants must be registered ahead of time.
